“Fiesta
Latina” features fun and seahorses
at the Tennessee Aquarium Sept. 13, 14, 20 & 21
CHATTANOOGA,
Tenn. (August 20, 2003) – The Tennessee Aquarium takes
visitors all the places a river goes – all the way
from mountain streams to the sea. And for two weekends in
September, the Aquarium and its plaza will be awash in seahorses,
live music, divers feeding fish, crafts, water play and
activities for children.
“The
Aquarium celebrates the aquatic world with 9,000 animals
that swim, fly and crawl in natural exhibits,” said
Katrina Craven, Aquarium public relations coordinator and
organizer of the weekend events to be held Sept. 13, 14,
20 and 21. “We want to share our appreciation of the
watery world with everyone. ‘Fiesta Latina’
is a terrific reason to spend the day or the weekend in
Chattanooga.”
In
addition, the Aquarium will be opened later on those two
weekends, with the last ticket sold at 8 p.m. The Aquarium
opens at 9:30 a.m.
Here’s
what’s happening in and around the Aquarium:
-
Live music on the plaza surrounding the Aquarium, beginning
each afternoon –traditional Cuban sounds, popular rhythms
of Latin dance music, salsa and strolling mariachi bands.
-
Mamacitas de Mayfield will dish up free ice cream, or McKee’s
“Little Debbie” employees will distribute their
new Coco Pina cakes.
-
Cool off -- The wading stream that winds around the Aquarium
offers respite from the summer heat. Be sure to pack some
extra clothes, bathing suit (or swimmie diapers) for small

- Feeding
dives – Every day at 2 p.m., catch the feeding frenzy
in the Nickajack Lake exhibit, where collossal catfish, diving
ducks and bizarre paddlefish eat from divers’ hands.

crafts -- Association of Visual Artists and other craftspeople
will display, sell and help children create their own works
of art.
- Storyteller
Colleen Laliberte will share traditional Latin folktales on
the plaza and in the Aquarium auditorium.
- While
at the Aquarium, explore a hidden maze of pipes and pumps; discover
how to make seawater from scratch; see (and smell) what’s
on the menu for Aquarium creatures; and even feed some of our
fish! Tours 3 p.m. daily.
- LaBuena
radio station (Z93.1 FM) will do live remote broadcasts from
the Fiesta.
- Check
out the interactive fun at the Environmental Learning Lab in
the IMAX building. You and your kids can do everything from
hitting a pinata and chilling out in the IMAX garden, to exploring
CD-ROMs and educational software.
- Customize
your Chattanooga getaway -- Check out the Getaway Planner on
the Aquarium’s Web site at www.tnaqua.org.
- Live animal
encounters (weather permitting) and other educational programs
on the plaza throughout the day.
- Seymour
the Seahorse will make appearances at the plaza, entertaining
children and adults alike.

Beyond Imagination,” is a magical journey into the kingdom
of seahorses where visitors can discover the secrets of these
enchanting creatures.
